20 Questions to Start The Year Off Right!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The start of the year is a great time to get out a notebook or journal and answer these 20 introspective questions... Your answers are the basis for designing and creating your life to be what you dream of! Within each of your answers lies your innate wisdom about how to go about doing just that! ENJOY!
A JUMP START: For those who wish to make a special commitment to accountability, goal-setting, and support around your dream, I offer private one-to-one coaching. Individualized support and empowerment principles are applied to overcome obstacles, clarify the vision, and align the goal with you and your authentic gifts and passions. To get a jump start on your year and discuss one or more of these questions during a Complimentary Coaching Session, contact me! HAPPY NEW YEAR!
1.) What are the three main changes you want to make in the next 3 to 6 months, starting at this moment?
2.) Name one thing you'd like to be doing differently a year from now.
3.) What has held you back from making these changes up to now?
4.) Who is currently in charge of your life, you or other people?
5.) Where does irresponsibility show itself most predominately in your life?
6.) What motivates you (or, what makes your heart sing)?
7.) What is the biggest fear you have about your life (or, what bothers you the most about your life)?
8.) Do you think that having a great life is really possible? (If no, why not?)
9.) What would “a great life” look like for you? How would you know if you’ve achieved it?
10.) Would you rather be right or would you rather be happy?
11.) Is there a legacy you wish to leave?
12.) What is the biggest business or personal opportunity that you currently are not taking advantage of?
13.) What activities have you been involved in, that have put a huge smile on your face? (Alone? With another? With a group?)
14.) How long has it been since you were in those smile activities?
15.) What’s your definition of success?
16.) What are some of your healthy sources of energy?
17.) How proud of yourself are you right now?
18.) What are your gifts (those things that are innate; that come effortlessly to you)?
19.) What is presently consuming your time that you wish you could eliminate?
20.) What question are you glad I didn't ask? :)
What is Your Primary Aim?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Create Your Life!, LLC Newsletter
What is Your Primary Aim?
January 2007
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following excerpt is from a book called "The E- Myth Revisited" by Michael E. Gerber. It begins with the premise that giving some thought to how we'd want the story of our life to go if we were to pre-record our life testament to play for friends, family, and colleagues at our own funeral, is a powerful reflective tool in creating our life with intention, now:
"How would you like that story to go? That's your Primary Aim. What would you like to be able to say about your life after it's too late to do anything about it? That's your Primary Aim. If you were to write a script for the tape to be played for the mourners at your funeral, how would you like it to read? That's your Primary Aim. And once you've created the script, all you need to do is make it come true. All you need to do is begin living your life as if it were important. All you need to do is take your life seriously. To create it intentionally. To actively make your life into the life you wish it to be."
What is your Primary Aim?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I can hear it now: That's all?!?! Well that sounds difficult!
Maybe it is. Or, maybe it proves the simplest thing you've every done. Either way, I'd bet you've successfully endured things much more difficult...so if, in fact, it proves difficult, we both know you've got what it takes.
We are constantly creating and re-creating our lives with the choices we make.
THE TOUGH QUESTIONS THAT CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE:
Are you actively creating the life you want in this very moment?
What is the cost of trying? How does that compare with the cost of never knowing?
Five years from now, what will have been the best decision?
When is NOW going to be the "right" time?

Anonymous Journal Entries: May 19, 2011
BELOW ARE THE MOVING, FUN, AND DOWNRIGHT PROFOUND JOURNAL ENTRIES THAT WERE WRITTEN IN THE TIME MACHINE AT THE "2011 PARTY IN 2006" IN RESPONSE TO: What will YOU be doing/thinking/feeling on May 19, 2011? Write as if you're already there...a powerful step in its creation!
---
May 19, 2011: It has been two years since my first novel was published. I am amazed at how much it has changed my life! Some for the better, some for the worse, and all totally worth it. What I like best about my life right now is the sense of peace. I've finally stopped scrambling after this goal and that. We're totally settled into our "new" apartment, and people treat us pretty much the same - maybe there's a little more friendliness, a little more "best behavior". There's a little bit more jealously, but hey, any time there's a parade, there's someone nearby to fart on it. No reason not to have a parade! Life is better now that I've met two of the biggest goals I've ever set for myself. What next? How about a vacation?!? :) Best wishes to everyone and their "future" selves. Why wait????
---
May 19, 2011: Fatter, balder, and with a kid who's 5 years old!
---
May 19, 2011: What an exciting day! My first book, "Squeezing Juice From a Berry" has just been published. I'll be heading out for a 2-week book tour next week - reading excepts from my book. Along the way, I'll be working on the poems in praise of the human body. My experience having a baby has contributed enormously to that book. My husband and daughter are my greatest blessings!
---
May 19, 2011: Wow, I can't beleive everywhere I've been! There is so much to see that is so different than what I've experienced in my first 33 years. Who knew I'd feel so happy and complete as I do now!
---
May 19, 2011: What a great day! Finished up the annual retreat in St. John's and am ready to get back to New England. Over 50 women at this year's event - a fabulous success! I'm so excited to be doing this kind of empowerment work with so many talented people. My next adventure begins in three weeks when my husband and I head to Australia for a month. We love getting back to the rhythm of that place. And are so glad that the kids can join us this year. Now that we've managed to settle at the retreat center and feel comfortable traveling, the sky's the limit!
---
May 19, 2011: First, thanks for the fortune cookie... There. Started writing - now try to stop me. Wow, thank god for that party in 2006! How quickly the years pass... I remember creating those buttons for each of my dreams, and as I accomplished each one, I "stuck it" in my bulletin board - the travel, fabulous adventures and fun - all balanced with down time - to do my nails, to play a game, to learn to sail and the day I put the key to my BMW325 convertible, I thought of Tara and smiled. What a life! Here's to the next five...
---
May 19, 2011: I LOVE my life! I also feel empowered in my ability to communicate powerfully to my partner, my family and my co-workers. It's so nice that I am able to spend 50% of my time creating and 50% of my time leading and empowering future leaders! I am designing my own home to be a spiritual haven and I travel internationally four times a year. I love, trust and empower myself.
---
May 19, 2011: Things are going well. I have a great family, my business is taking off, and my wife might even leave her job to help run the business. Our son Max is just a laugh riot. He's almost 4! Time flies!
---
May 19, 2011: Well, I've done what I thought was impossible. I am happy. I've found sustainable love. I am ready for the rest of my life. I WILL survive. Anything is possible. I can be happy for the rest of my life. I never thought it.
---
May 19, 2011: I am finally where I want to be. I love my career, my home and my life style. My little girl just graduated high school. I can finally feel happiness in my life.
---
May 19, 2011: I have multiple beauties all over the country where I can really make an impact on the industry and help people change their lives. I keep growing and learn more about myself every second of every day. I really start helping people find themselves.
---
May 19, 2011: It's so nice spending time with my family. The kids are at an age where we can have fun and be together. I know that the teenage years will come, but right now, it's perfect. Work is good. My family's doing great and we're where we should be...a happy family. Maybe not everything in this world or my life or the "way" is perfect, but I'm happy with the little piece of this life that I've carved out. Thank you.
---
May 19, 2011: Wow. I didn't give up; now look at us.
---
May 19, 2011: Trying to decide where to spend the summer painting...Greece, Amsterdam, India. Looking forward to our daughter/son's birth in January! Feeling happy, motivated, inspired, and healthy. And so in love ~
---
May 19, 2011: Change is what I needed and I can say it's kept me alive for another 5 years. Discovery, adventure, connections, and lasting memories. I feel free and open to the next 5 years of peace, happiness, and love!
---
May 19, 2011: Change, embrace, celebrate, evolve, flow.
---
May 19, 2011: Thank you Tara for being a wonderful friend and inspiration. I love you. It has been an amazing 5 years and I can't wait til your next awards ceremony!
---
May 19, 2011: I am in a much better place than I was 5 years ago. I found a new love, which I never thought possible. I learned to love myself and take care of myself. I am happy I went to that party and got to write this!
---
May 19, 2011: Although I don't like all the things my body is doing, I'm happy to say I'm in the best shape of my life. That's nothing but a minor point. My main joy is in my work and the face of my newly pregnant wife. Every day is a blessing. I don't know how to say it better.
---
May 19, 2011: Aahhhh.... Peace at last! Getting ready for my move to Portugal!
---
May 19, 2011: Dual residences: RI & Spain. Happy, complete. Still in love...
---
May 19, 2011: I am in the dream machine. I wish someone was with me.
---
May 19, 2011: Hello. Wow! I can't believe I am still doing whatever I want! I am so glad my creativity has been able to support my utopian visions and leisurely lifestyle. So many people bike now!
---
May 19, 2011: Doing something creative for cash. I can't wait.
---
May 19, 2011: I can hardly believe I did it! Thanks to God!
---
May 19, 2011: I am teaching children to feel success through their art!!
---
May 19, 2011: I'm feeling proud of my life. Peaceful and happy to have been here and grateful for all the people who have entered my life and touched me in so many ways. Hopefully I have many more years beyond this time to fulfill my dreams and hopes for the future!
---
May 19, 2011: I think that life is good because it is now balanced with work that I love and the replenishment that I get from time with family and time to work my body outdoors. I feel blessed to be among people that are gentle souls. I now rarely hurry.
---
May 19, 2011: Life is about oxygen. Oxygen is the water of life. You need it for clarity, purity, humanity, and completion. It is about human destiny and compassion. My life will mean absolutely nothing if I do not have a positive control over the factors that determine it's quality. That quality is you!!
---
May 19, 2011: I'm breathing, learning, growing, experiencing. Creating life with every breath in. Creating space for new life with every breath out. I'll be feeling everything with fluidity, openness, acceptance, and love. I will Be.
---
May 19, 2011: Traveling, finding new adventures in Asia, Europe, Australia. It's a whirlwind tour. I am living truthfully, openly, honestly, in good health - physical, financial, and abundant friends in my life. Namaste.

"Do, or do not. There is no 'try.'" -- Jedi Master Yoda
"Try" This
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As far as I'm concerned, "try" expired in high school algebra.
One of the simplest, most powerful ways to streamline goals and set a clearer standard for your life, is to consciously raise your awareness around what you say. Regardless of what it is you are working towards, raising your awareness around language can result in a tremendous, and immediate, increase in clarity and focus.
What level of commitment do you bring to an activity when you "try" to do it? How will you recognize and celebrate a "try"?
It's subtle, but with the use of one tiny little word, we manage to limit our beliefs, insult our abilities, communicate doubt, and cloud our thinking with ambiguity. There's no "try", only "do", regardless of the outcome of 'the doing'.
We don't try to start a business, we start a business. We don't try to exercise, we exercise. We don't try to learn something new, we learn it. We don't try to go to an appointment, we either go or we don't. (You get the idea.)
Deleting words like 'try' from your vocabulary takes time. To start, I OFFER A CHALLENGE: Make the commitment to simply raise your AWARENESS around the language that you use. When you catch yourself using 'try', 'should', 'kind of', 'sort of' etc. simply stop, notice it, and then rephrase your prior statement. Observe how it feels to hear your rephrased version out loud. Do this over and over again, as needed, until the words are no longer part of your vocabulary.
Incremental steps towards clearer language results in incremental steps towards clearer living!
Yoda said it best. "Do or do not, there is no 'try'."
Don't Should On Me
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you "should" be doing something, then why aren't you?
"Should" is a loaded word. How much of your precious energy are you currently spending on what you "should" be doing? If it's truly something you need to do, then get to it! If not, then consider asking yourself, "Who says I should?" More often than not, a "should" is someone else's agenda, someone else's dream, someone else's guilty conscious, that we're engaging in an exhausting internal dialog with. If it's someone else's agenda, not yours, identifying and releasing yourself from the burden of this "should", can provide you with lightness of heart and more available energy for what's really important to you!
A 3-part exercise that can easily be done with a friend:
Part 1: Voice the "should".
You: I should ___________. / Friend: Why? / You: Because ___________. / Friend: So why haven't you? / You: Because ___________. (Listen closely to your own responses.)
Part 2: Make the "should" a "could."
You: I could _________. / Friend: So why haven't you? / You: Because ________. / (Listen closely to your own responses.)
Part 3: Make the "could" a "will", or "will not."
You: I will _________.
Retreat! Retreat!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyone’s heard or been told at one point or another: “Complaining won’t help!” Well, WHAT IF COMPLAINING CAN HELP? What if, within each of our complaints, lies the secret to our greatest happiness?!?!?!
What would happen if you took the time to listen carefully to your complaints and, with some help, were able to turn each of them into clear requirements for your life? Imagine how empowering it would be to turn your complaints into requirements and, thereby, raise your personal standards!
Transforming complaints into requirements is just one of the life-enhancing tools that will be included in our upcoming Women’s Retreat Weekend. We hope you’ll join us for a weekend focused on strengthening the foundation that your goals and dreams are built upon...YOU!
Seasons Greetings!
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?...Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you...As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."
~ from Marianne Williamson's "A Return to Love", used in Nelson Mandela's inaugural speech (1994).
Article: the New Year's Resolution Dilemma (Reprise)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
While it's an admittedly arbitrary tradition, making a New Year's resolution is as good a way as any to do some self evaluation and decide on ways to create more joy, authenticity, balance, and fulfillment in your life.
Having said that, have you ever felt the early-January, adrenalin pumping, I-can-do-it, this-is-MY-year determination, only to have your resolution deflate into little more than an adrenaline hangover and faint memory by mid-February?
When the next year rolls around, what do you do? Do you set a similar, yet slightly less audacious, resolution and deem it "more realistic"?
"This way," you say to yourself, "I'm not setting myself up for failure." Or, maybe you become a disgruntled New Year's humbug and decide to stop making resolutions all together!
Sometimes we actually convince ourselves that lowering our standards is an act of self-kindness! What tricksters we are!
This year, why not raise the bar on what's realistic? Why not set a goal for your powerful-beyond-measure-greater-than- you've-ever-imagined Self, and make the commitment? And why not start right now?
Dare to be nothing short of fabulous in 2006!
1. What's your New Year's resolution?
2. How does this resolution reflect the standards you've set for yourself?
3. In what ways would fulfilling your resolution impact your life?
4. Would sharing your resolution with someone who agrees to hold you accountable be helpful? If so, be specific in your request: for a month, a year, a lifetime?
Here's how hiring a coach can help....
As your Coach I will: * Challenge you to live your best life! * Help you clarify your goals! * Help bring awareness to your unique gifts and strengths! * Help you prioritize based on your Truths, not just your deadlines! * Encourage you! * Tell the truth about what I'm observing! * Celebrate your successes!
I wish you all a happy, healthy, loving, abundant Holiday Season & New Year!
Happy Anniversary!

There is a story of a man under a street lamp searching for something on all fours. A policeman passing by asked what he was doing. "Looking for my car keys," replied the man, who appeared slightly drunk. "Did you drop them here?" inquired the officer. "No," answered the man, "I dropped them in the alley." Seeing the policeman's baffled expression, the man hastened to explain, "But the light is much better here."

Article: Where Are You Willing to Look?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When coaching a client who is really struggling with something, I might ask, "HOW WILLING ARE YOU TO DO WHAT'S EASY?"
Even the most challenging circumstances, more often than not, have simple solutions. So, why do we have such a strong tendency to let our EXTRAORDINARY CAPACITY TO COMPLICATE THINGS light our path instead of the simple solution?
I believe, it's because that's where the light of our perspective is shining. When we're struggling, it seems only logical that the solution must be at least, if not more, complicated than the challenge at hand. But this is micro-logic.
Finding the simple solution while we're "in it," can be very difficult. A coach can help by providing the objective perspective we often can't provide for ourselves...A coach will hold the vision of your big picture goals, and the vision of you at your best, while simultaneously helping you to sort through the challenging details...A coach will hold up a mirror so you can see your own solution.
An Excercise:
1. Bring to mind something that you are currently "looking for"...something you want for your life...something that currently feels out of reach.
2. Then, ask yourself, "Could the solution be as simple as looking, not necessarily where the light is good, but where I'm likely to find what I'm looking for???"
I believe, it's because that's where the light of our perspective is shining. When we're struggling, it seems only logical that the solution must be at least, if not more, complicated than the challenge at hand. But this is micro-logic.
Finding the simple solution while we're "in it," can be very difficult. A coach can help by providing the objective perspective we often can't provide for ourselves...A coach will hold the vision of your big picture goals, and the vision of you at your best, while simultaneously helping you to sort through the challenging details...A coach will hold up a mirror so you can see your own solution.
An Excercise:
1. Bring to mind something that you are currently "looking for"...something you want for your life...something that currently feels out of reach.
2. Then, ask yourself, "Could the solution be as simple as looking, not necessarily where the light is good, but where I'm likely to find what I'm looking for???"
Can You See In The Dark?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As most of you know, I, along with my two phenomenal colleagues, facilitated a women’s retreat over the Columbus Day weekend. One of the many activities we enjoyed was gathering around a campfire and sharing the story of what brought each of us to the retreat.
When we left the campfire, we walked back to our rooms in the dark. No lights shone the way, and the cloudy sky did not shed any starlight to help us home. It was dark. But, only moments later, we were walking with ease on the wooded path. I remarked at how well our eyes had adjusted to the dark. After another moment of contemplating the phenomenon, I corrected myself, saying, "actually, I guess our eyes adjusted to the light, not the dark" to which another summed it up with "Yeah, we can't see dark."
We can't see dark. Our eyes adjust to the light. Hmmm...
What if our attitude on life did this????
Retreat Testimonials

The Women’s Discovery Weekend was a full-fledged success! The goal of helping women discover what is next in their lives and providing the tools to meet and support that challenge was achieved. Everyone, including the facilitators, walked away with a greater sense of self, a lightness in her step, and an empowered vision for the future.
See what our attendees had to say:
"Thanks to this experience, I am ready and equipped to take on the challenges I have set for myself. I have received the support and tools I need to succeed. And I will succeed. Thank you!"
"This was a rewarding, fulfilling and focused retreat run by great facilitators whose skills and areas of expertise compliment each other beautifully. I discovered things about myself that I was not aware of. I am leaving with a "Road Map" of where I want to go with my life and how I am going to get there."
"I have been thoroughly enriched by this experience."
"It was a wonderful sharing experience - touching and exhilarating. I feel calm, restored, and exhilarated at the same time."
