Why I've been out of touch

A full month has flown by since you heard from me last - and what a month it's been!

Are you feeling uncomfortable?

Are you uncomfortable?

Something really important has surfaced for me recently.

I had this experience where I was reminded of just how potent a source of motivation discomfort is. I'm not going to go into this in full detail because it is THAT uncomfortable (I'm sure you've experienced the same), but here's what I've discovered about this and how it connects to your dream...

Your dreams and goals can serve as pure and inspired motivation for action, there's no doubt about that. But, sometimes discomfort is even more of an incentive for change. Know what I mean?

It's easy to put off upping-the-ante on your JOY because, well, right now is tolerable enough... But when things send us into a tizzy of "this really isn't working for me," change happens f-a-s-t and those all-of-a-sudden priorities quickly by-pass whatever had previously been at the top of the to-do list.

Change is a fascinating phenomenon, and there's certainly no shortage of opportunities to witness this phenom taking place right now - whether on a deeply personal level or a macro-cosmic scale.

A question I get asked a lot is "Tara, what if I don't know what my dreams are?" Here are three things to consider if you aren't sure what your dreams are:


1. Your heart knows what it wants.

If you're feeling like your dreams are a mystery, it may be time to check in and see what your heart has to say on the topic. Set an intention to be willing to listen and to allow the voice of your dreams to be heard. Carve out sacred time and space. Ask, and then LISTEN... This is not time to edit or critique or decide what's unrealistic, too big, silly or small for you. Just listen, with your full attention. And like anything else, the more practiced at it you get, the easier it will become.


2. Perhaps your dream isn't "a thing" at all.

Perhaps you've already been to Australia, you have loving partnership, enough money to do as you please, and you don't want to write a book. Yet, despite the external aspects of your life where you want them, you know something is desperately missing. Rather than looking for the next thing, consider: How would you like to FEEL? Yes - dreams can be a feeling. Perhaps you aspire to feel contentment, peace, balance, at ease, joyful. Whatever your answer to how you would like to feel, believe in the possibility, declare it, and you're already on your way...



3. Sometimes we know more than we think we know, you know? :)

Something that makes me giggle (at least on the inside) every time I say it is: "I understand that you really don't know, but if you DID know, what would the answer be?" This question has been known to reveal some surprising wisdom, clarity, and some awe-inspiring dreams!


See? Your dream doesn't have to remain a mystery.

But that's just not how dream realization works.


This is what I know. It is time to let yourself want it - even and especially if you don't know how to bring your dream to fruition.

Joy is not frivolous. Despite all sources to the contrary, joy is not a blissful state of ignorance experienced only by the irresponsible. It is not a fleeting luxury of childhood, or the 20's. It is not privately owned by the Pollyannas, nor is it a prize awarded by the stuff-acquiring puppeteers club. Oh no, joy is not frivolous at all.

In Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert writes:

"I keep remembering one of my Guru's teaching about happiness. She says that people universally tend to think that happiness is a stroke of luck, something that will maybe descend upon you like fine weather if you're fortunate enough. But that's not how happiness works. Happiness is the consequence of personal effort. You fight for it, strive for it, insist upon it, and sometimes even travel around the world looking for it. You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestations of your own blessings. And once you have achieved a state of happiness, you must never become lax about maintaining it, you must make a mighty effort to keep swimming upward into that happiness forever, to stay afloat on top of it."

Gather 'round...

(Ahem.)

Once upon a time, I wrote a book. I was inspired to write this book thanks to my brilliant clients. You see, I began to notice an uncanny theme in our conversations. I noticed that my clients were using words like "baby" "conception" "expecting" "nesting" "stretching limits" "birthing" "labor"...and even "cutting the cord"...all in reference to the process of bringing their dreams to life!

It struck me as rather odd at first...

That is, until I understood the wisdom of the pregnancy metaphor. Herein lies a timeless, intuitive, universal, natural process - one that, I realized, can support us in birthing just about anything! And so, I begin writing, and the words were practically falling out and onto the page. A week or so later, I was on the phone with my mom one afternoon, and mentioned that I had started writing a book.

Now, I kid you not... I had told her NOTHING about the book itself, the topic, the theme, nothing. And, do you know what she said? This is what she said: First, she literally gasped with excitement, and then she said, with sincere over-the-top exuberance, "How far along are you?!?"

Can you believe THAT?

I laughed out loud, and then proceeded to do my best to explain what was so funny. You can be sure that, in that moment, I let go of any lingering doubt that I was on the right track! AND, the uncanny synergies continued... While signing a book for someone at the book release party, I was asked how long it took to write my book. It was a question I hadn't answered before or given any thought to - and while you might expect I'd have caught on by then - I was stunned when I realized that this 'baby' took me 9 months!

Oh yes... it was an inspired journey, for sure. BUT, I didn't write it for me!
I wrote it for YOU!

It's getting warmer!

But, feeling the heat doesn't have to mean feeling thirsty!
Let me explain...

As a Dream Realization coach, I know the beauty of dreaming and what it takes to make those dreams come true, but this certainly wasn't always the case.

Even during the most trying times, I've known in my heart-of-hearts that given the right tools, I could juice up a tall glass of lemonade from that pile of lemons that I kept tripping on!

And so, I set out to create a deliciously juicy life. I was ready to do whatever it took, not because I was especially brave but because I simply couldn't imagine that the journey to fulfilling those dreams could be any harder than staying put! Relate?
